Lately, I’ve been seeing news reports about manlike, man-sized, autonomous, bipedal robots. Such a robot in a neighborhood in Poland chased a pack of feral pigs out of the neighborhood. It wasn’t remotely controlled. It perceived it’s target, understood its objective, and behaved accordingly. It was able to chase the pigs around obstacles. Unlike a wheeled machine, it was able to negotiate such things as curbs.

In China, some robots ran against human competitors in a half marathon. The robots weren’t remotely controlled. They were autonomous. They correctly followed the course of the race. They ran on two legs, not on wheels. One of them ran faster than the human competitors, and won the race.

Back when drones first became available, people wondered if such drones would ever be weaponized. Today, ask any Ukrainian for the answer to that question. Now, I suggest that we should be asking if the autonomous robots will ever be weaponized. That robot in China not only ran faster than its human competitors, it ran about 13 miles, which is farther than most people can run. It didn’t even get tired.

It’s possible that, in the foreseeable future, we might no longer be our own worst enemies. It’s possible that, in the foreseeable future might no longer be at all.

When I was young, my father told me that the Model T Ford was the best automobile ever designed. The more I learn, the more inclined I am to agree with him. So far as I can tell, the Model T Ford did everything that an automobile needs to do and none of the things that an automobile doesn’t need to do. I suggest that the automotive engineers of today should be ashamed of themselves because of the technocrap that they’re designing. The managers and marketing swindlers should give us a choice between the technocrap and some very basic, simple models. I suggest that their talents would be better spent if we sent them all to former or present war zones, to defuse land mines or remove unexploded munitions.

Russia is pumping oil to Hungary and Slovakia, through the Druzbha pipeline, in Ukraine. The pipeline was previously damaged by a Russian attack on Ukraine, but Ukraine repaired it. Now, it’s in operation again. The income generated for Russia, by the sale of the oil, is used by Russia in its war against Ukraine.

Some of the Russian oil that’s purchased by Hungary is refined into diesel fuel. It’s sent to Ukraine, where it’s used in the war against Russia.

It’s a strange situation. I tried to think of how such a situation could exist. I developed a theory.

Maybe the governments of Russia, Hungary, and Ukraine aren’t in control of the situation. Maybe the oil fields, the refineries, and the pumping and transportation facilities, are owed by some corporations. Maybe the war is providing a lot of income for those corporations. Maybe they manipulated the three governments into the deal. It’s a strange theory but it provides an explanation for a strange situation, and it seems like a better explanation than anything else that presently comes to mind.

Fiendish Trap

In the November 2016 issue, I published a picture of a turtle that was trapped in a piece of plastic packaging. I’m publishing the picture again, here, for people who might not have kept their November 2016 issue. Note that the source that I cited in that issue has been replaced by a different website. So, I no longer have a link to the original source of the picture.

I recently ordered an item via eBay. The item consisted of two bottles of liquid. The advertisement showed only the two bottles, and didn’t indicate how they were to be secured together during shipment. When I received the shipment, I discovered that the bottles were secured together with a fiendish contraption that couldn’t have been designed as a more effective hazard to animals if that had actually been it’s intended purpose. See the photo.

The device is made from very heavy duty plastic, and would be effectively indestructible to any animal that got a head or a leg trapped in one of the holes. The little tabs that extend inward from the circumference are almost as sharp as knives. I got a small cut on one finger just from reaching into one of the holes to see how stiff the tabs are. They’re stiff enough that, if an animal got the thing stuck on its neck or its leg, and tried to get back out, then the tabs would clench tight against the animal, trapping it securely.

I’m not recommending another bunch of stupid regulations. We have far too many of those already. I’m advocating that there should be a much better way to secure bottles of liquid together during shipment, and that the people who design such things ought to be smart enough to figure out how to do it.

People who object to pedophilia ought to check their definition. According to the Ameri-can Heritage Dictionary of the English Lan-guage, 1992, pedophilia is a sexual attraction felt by an adult toward a child or children. Thus, pedophilia isn’t a sexual attraction to-ward so-called adolescents. It’s a sexual attrac-tion toward children. Prior to puberty, a young person is a child. After puberty, a young per-son, under current assumptions, is an adoles-cent. Thus, regardless of the maunderings of the stuffy matrons and the strident rantings of the evangelistic sin freaks, a 16-year-old fe-male, for example, isn’t a child. She’s a young woman. That’s been true for most of the exis-tence of our species. For most of that time, such young women didn’t spend their time lan-guishing in a phony limbo between child and adult. They spent most of that time being ei-ther pregnant or mothers.

Furthermore, I object to the entire notion of adolescence. I regard it as a phony concoction, probably created by religious control freaks in their zeal to impose their oppressive morality onto everybody else, or by stuffy matrons who’re jealous of the younger competition. In both cases, the agenda isn’t the welfare of

young women. The agenda is controlling them. Neither gang of reformers has any real concern for their welfare of the young women, only for their behavior.

It follows that a man who feels a sexual attraction toward such a young women, but who doesn’t feel a sexual attraction toward children, isn’t a pedophile. He’s a normal male of the species. Such a young woman who cooperates with him isn’t a victim of sexual harassment. She’s a voluntary participant. In such a consensual situation, there probably aren’t any victims at all, or even any perpetrators, until the intrusive morality police get involved and redefine the situation as obscene, and all of the participants as sinners, that is, redefine everything in their own sorry image.

Usurperation of Church and State
